Welcome to the Quick Frame System
The Quick-Frame System is designed to provide maximum design flexibility
as well as a low cost, easy to configure framing system for on-site
construction. It is approved for the installation of 45, 60, 90 and
120 minute Pyrobel fire and safety rated glazing.
Detailing the System
Due to slight construction adjustments in the field it is always best to
construct the frame prior to ordering the Pyrobel glazing. However, the
1" stop heights can normally make up for any slight variations.
When designing the Quick-Frame system for a 1-hour wall assembly, the
vertical sill, jambs and head will only require one boxed 20 gauge steel
stud and track. However, in a 2-hour wall and any time the glass will be
stacked, then a double steel stud and track will be required for the
mullions, sills, jambs and head, as in the Mullion Detail.
Once the base frame is designed you have a multitude of options for the
finish at the edges of the glass. The simple solution is the gypsum
board finish and paint. In addition, wood molding of any species, steel
and aluminum are approved to provide a more elegant solution.
The Quick-Frame system for 60 an 120 minute wall systems is not normally
limited in scope (height and width) by model building codes. However,
when exceeding 10 feet in height it is recommended that plans be
approved by a structural engineer who will take into account the
integrity and seismic considerations of the wall including the addition
of the glazing.
Finally, building inspectors, fire marshals and other authorities having
jurisdiction may not be familiar with this type of system. Be sure that
you have discussed and obtained their approval prior to commencing.
Sometimes it is helpful when discussing 60 and 120 minute systems to
refer to them as "transparent walls" as they are tested to the
same rigors as a standard 60 and 120 minute wall.
The following is a list of materials required for constructing the
Quick-Frame system. Please note InterEdge only supplies items 5, 6 and
7. All other materials to be provided by others.
- Minimum 20 gauge stud and track
- Type X or C gypsum board in 5/8" and 1/2" thickness
- 1" and 2" drywall screws
- 1" x 1" steel angle
- 1/8" x 1/2" closed cell foam glazing tape (can be provided by
InterEdge at time of order)
- Setting blocks for glazing
- Pyrobel 45, 60, 90 and 120 minute glazing
